Type Locality and Naming

It was named by Zhu Zaoling, Ge Meiyu et al in 1977. The type section is near the 76 km milestone, by the road from Shashuliang to Dayanmen in Tianba, 70 km west of the Chengkou County in northeastern Chongqing Shi.

Synonym: (田坝组)


Lithology and Thickness

The formation, 151.6 m in thickness, is dominated by interbeds of greenish gray medium-to-thin bedded quartzose siltstone, silty mudstone and argillaceous siltstone.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It contacts conformably with the underlying Shuanghechang Fm

Upper contact

It contacts conformably with the overlying Dayamen Fm

Regional extent

It is exposed restrictedly in northeastern Chongqing Province.

Fossils

It bears the Spirograptus turriculatus zone in the lower part and the Monograptus drepanoformis-Streptograptus sinicus zone in the upper part of the formation. Besides, it yields trace fossils and a small amount of trilobite, brachiopod, etc. in the upper part of the formation.
